Yep, lots to do before Musselfest. I don't want to hijack your blog entirely with that stuff though - I might set up my own blog for the endless details of cooking experiments, farmhouse maintenance, etc. Have you been out to Whidbey Island?

I had to look that up and found that, "According to the Professional Union of Italian Pasta Makers the sauce became popular in the 1960s." Do you have your Union card?
My Brussels Sprouts ended up creamy too when I added some yogurt to the rather lemony final meat dish.
I'm disoriented. I remember things by location and now your not over there in Seattle, he waves his hand about, but off to the left on Whidbey Island. Egad.
I've become pretty comfortable with sour dough and made my own starter. I hadn't heard of Musselfest before. Sounds like you are set for a good time.

That sounds like a very worthy dinner! Tonight my friend Sonya and I made a pretty fantastic pasta puttanesca, with brussels sprouts braised in cream on the side, and a salad with local feta and kalamata olives. No oven needed! We threw in a cheap sangiovese but it worked well with dinner. We're both serious foodies so when she came out to help me run this B&B on Whidbey Island, the kitchen started crackling like a Jacob's Ladder ;) The B&B is an actual thing in a 19th century farmhouse, though in its starting stages, and should be full-on by March starting with Coupeville's Musselfest as a kickoff. Hmmmm.... sourdough! My favorite. I need to make a starter.

I forgot to mention that those EMs in the pic were sour dough and the innovation was that I had added yeast. An appreciated improvement over the previous hockey pucks.
Today I'm marinating top round steak in lemon, a new idea I picked up off the internet. Combo with Brussels Sprouts and potatoes from the garden for dinner. In the meantime I'm bashing on the garden buildings so I can store the stuff I moved and get access in a usable fashion. It will be time to put the peas in soon.
In what part of Seattle do you live? I lived on Capitol Hill from '71 to '76. If I had known about Tango then I don't think I would have left.
B&B? oy vey. Dream or present day reality?

Hooray for the Volvo stationwagon! They rank in my top favorite types of cars. So useful, and worth fixing up.

How's the hearth cooking experimentation coming along? I'm revisiting crumpets and english muffins, whole grain style, because I want to offer them at my B&B. I've made just about every kind of pan bread in the past but I'm trying to get it honed into magnificence.

These are skills that warm a Shed Boy's heart.
I'm terrible with cars. I almost gave up on the van once and then found that all it needed was a $5 part. I think now that its problem is a cracked ring in the cylinder that does something special and should have had it's thingamabob adjusted more often so it didn't burn up. I just gave up on repairing it after a similarly talented German repairman advised that it was time for retirement. I have come bear a dual allegiance to my '87 Volvo wagon.

It is one of my few good qualities that I can enjoy dancing with a beginner as long as they are attentive. I look forward to a repeat.
